Unicorn Vodka

I’m not a fan of gin, I think it tastes like medicine but I really like the fancy gins you can get with shimmer or in different colours and flavours. I spent a long time looking for a similar thing in vodka but couldn’t find anything I liked so I decided to create my own and call it Unicorn Vodka!

Unicorn Vodka would make a lovely gift, especially at Christmas (you don’t need to call it unicorn vodka if you would rather name it something else). You could even recreate the famous snow globe gin with your unicorn vodka. This is simple to do. You just need to paint a bottle (these ones are beautiful) with a stencil and some white paint and then add an LED coaster light (these ones are perfect) to the bottom. Finish off by adding a label and voilà, a beautiful and delicious gift. Or a fancy treat for yourself.

Here is my Unicorn Vodka recipe.

Unicorn Vodka (this one had edible silver leaf in it but it went too clumpy so I wouldn’t add that again).

Ingredients

  • 500g raspberries
  • 250g white caster sugar
  • 1tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1-2tbsp edible shimmer I got this one from Amazon
  • 1l vodka

Equipment

  • 1.5l sterilised jar like this one
  • Scales
  • Tbsp measure
  • Jug or funnel
  • Nice bottle
  • Strainer

Method

  1. Tip the raspberries, sugar and vanilla into the sterilised jar.
  2. Pour half the vodka into the jar. Seal tightly, then give it a shake to evenly distribute the sugar. Open the jar and add the remaining vodka.
  3. Make sure the jar is sealed and stored in a cool dark place, turning/shaking once a day for the first week. After 2-3 weeks you can strain the vodka.
  4. Add the shimmer to a bottle. Pour the vodka into the bottle. You could pour it into smaller bottles like these to use as gifts. The vodka will keep its pink colour for a few months but will remain drinkable for up to 2 years.
