This is a collaborative post.
It can be hard to get kids to go outside and be active, but it is not impossible. Especially with tweens and teens who would rather play video games or use their phones than go to school. Then again, this does not mean that there are not any fun outdoor activities you and your family can do together.
These seven outdoor activities are great for kids(and adults!) of all ages because they are not too hard to do. In most cases, there are not going to be a lot of costs or things you do not already have. Try them out and see how it goes!
Hiking
Families all over the world enjoy hiking because it is a good way to spend time together. It is cheap, easy to get to, does not need a lot of equipment, and the easy trails can be used by people of all ages. You can do this all year long, no matter where you live.
National parks and trails near your home are both good places to go. Because you can decide how far you walk, you can plan a whole or half-day trip. Pack a picnic and some insect spray, and you are ready to go. If you are going with small kids, remember that it is best to start small.
Playing on the beach
A trip to the beach is a great way to spend a summer day with kids of all ages. Make a day trip out of a visit if there is one near where you live. You can also build sandcastles, look for shells, or just lay back and read a book on the beach. You can also splash around in the water.
Do not forget to protect your skin from the sun! Set out sunglasses, hats and sunscreen for everyone in the family. It is also a good idea to check the UV forecast to make sure you are not exposing yourself to dangerous rays. People who want to relax between 11 am and 3 pm should look for a place with natural greenery where they can do so. That is when the sun tends to be the most powerful.
Cycling
This is another great thing for the whole family to do. Most people already have a bicycle, but even if you don’t, you can rent one for a cheap price. Older kids who already know how to do something will enjoy getting to do it again. People who are younger can use stabilisers, or they can hitch a ride on a seat that fits on your bike.
Depending on where you live and what you want to do, you could go for a simple ride on flat ground or go on a mountain trail adventure. Make sure you have a lot of sunscreens, a helmet, and protective pads on, no matter what. Have a look at this post from Blog Bay Bee to see how you can transport your bikes with your car.
Camping
A lot of families with small kids do not go camping because they find it messy and awkward. But, if you know how to prepare, you can do it.
To spend the night outside, though, you do not have to go far. You can even set up camp in your own yard.
You can do this with your friends and family if you want to get away from your computer and phone screens for a while. However, you will need a lot of serious equipment and a decent car, such as a Land Rover to transport you and your things to often rugged land. Make sure you are ready for everything, including bad weather and boredom.
